Course Overview

An information session is available but not compulsory from 6.40 on the evening the course commences.  Please provide your PPS number.
The purpose of this Minor award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in Early Childhood Care and Education Practice to enable the learner to work under direction with children, their families and colleagues within early childhood care and education settings.

Please note that to achieve a major award in Early Childhood Education, that is required to work in Childcare, you need eight modules.  This course forms one of the 8 modules.

The Childcare sector has changed dramatically in the past ten years.  This 10 week course will bring you through the legislative and social changes that have resulted in the professionalisation of the sector and increased supports for children in Ireland.

The course will explore the roles of TULSA, POBAL, the DCYA in Ireland and how this fits in an international context with best practice for early years education.  We will also explore what forms a robust childcare sector and what our children need in terms of best practice in Ireland.
