QQI Level 5 Community Care 5M2786
Our Community Care programme provides training in all aspects of Community Care. We prepare participants for Jobs in the expanding healthcare sector, including positions in nursing homes, hospitals, day care centres or in private home care.
We prepare participants by providing the skills, knowledge, competence and confidence required to work in this sector. Course participants take a broad range of Community Care modules resulting in a full major award at QQI Level 5.
Course Fee:
The cost for individual modules is €195 (including examination fees). The cost for eight modules is €1280 which includes registration fee of €80 plus four installments of €300. Payment Plan available.
QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support 5M4339

Our Health Service Supervisory Management Skills programme provides training in all aspects of Healthcare Management. We prepare participants for Jobs in the expanding healthcare sector, including positions in nursing homes, hospitals, day care centres or in private home care.
We prepare participants by providing the skills, knowledge, competence and confidence required to work in this sector. Course participants take a broad range of Health Service Supervisory Management Skills modules resulting in a full major award at QQI Level 6.

The cost for individual modules is €195 (including examination fees). The cost for eight modules is €1280 which includes registration fee of €80 plus four installments of €300. Payment Plan available.

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the role and function of Human Resources within an organisation and their application in the workplace.

Please note each module has a credit value of 15 and in order to achieve a major award in “Healthcare” you need to have 120 credits, together with 150 hours work experience.

Care Skills –Module Code 5N2770
Course Information
This module aims to provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to care for clients in a safe and hygienic environment.
Programme Aim
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Identify the personal care needs of individual clients
- Assess and respond effectively to individual needs; offering choice and appropriate level of support
- Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of client/patient care; dressing, grooming, eating, continence care etc
- Demonstrate ability to encourage client involvement in meaningful social events
- Demonstrate excellence in reporting change in client/patient to supervisor and documenting same
- Gain understanding of the use of sensory equipment including hearing aids, glasses, dentures etc.
- Demonstrate good hygienic standards for all supportive equipment
- Show competence in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment
Care of the Older Person –Module Code 5N2706
Course Information
This module aims to provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to meet the full range of needs of older people in a variety of care settings
Programme Aim
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of the concept of the aging process
- Explore and discuss the role of the Health Care assistant (HCA) in aspects of positive attitude to ageing
- Demonstrate positive attitude to enhancing quality of life for older person including preparation for retirement
- Explore and discuss role of HCA in older person care
- Demonstrate good work practices in providing holistic care including consideration of social, emotional, psychological, recreational, financial, environmental and spiritual needs
- Discuss issues relating to an older person with mental health illness or chronic physical illness
- Gain an understanding of the many complexities experienced by an individual on a dementia journey
- Clarify the varying healthcare settings and the personnel roles within these settings including hospitals, nursing homes, daycentres, hospice and homecare options.

Safety and Health at Work–Module Code 5N1794
Course Information
This module aims to provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to promote and maintain safety and health in the workplace
Programme Aim
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Understand the legislation around safety and health within the healthcare sector
- Understand the role of the Health Safety Authority
- Understand specific concepts of safety and health within healthcare
- Consider risk assessment and hazard identification in care settings
- Discuss the role of the Healthcare Assistant in safety and health practices including consideration of noise, fumes, cleaning products etc
- Explore causes and prevention of emergency procedures including reporting and documentation
- Gain proficiency in fire prevention and infection control (including use of PPE)
- Develop an awareness of factors that influence health, safety and welfare within a healthcare setting
Care Support–Module Code 5N0758
Course Information
This module aims to provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to work effectively in a care setting. It aims to promote good practice and respect for diversity in lifestyle, religion and culture in care work.
Programme Aim
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Gain understanding of role, responsibility and entitlement of the care-worker
- Explore the role of the Healthcare Assistant within the multi-disciplinary team

Activities for Living Patient Care–Module Code 5N3707
Course Information
This module aims to provide the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to provide holistic care for older people in a variety of care settings working under the direction and supervision of nursing or midwifery staff.
Programme Aim
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Demonstrate good work practices in the provision of holistic care for patients/clients
- Gain understanding of the five main concepts of The Model of Living (social, physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual)
- Demonstrate principles of maintaining safe and hygienic environment in respectful and dignified manner
- Gain proficiency in Healthcare Assistant skills including awareness of nutrition, elimination and weight maintenance
- Demonstrate skills in pressure area care, foot care, mobilisation and urinalysis
- Demonstrate competence in care techniques for observations, pulse rate, patient/client temperature, breathing rate and blood pressure
Work Experience–Module Code 5N21356
Course Information
This module aims to provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks independently while under general direction.
Programme Aim
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Examine work organisations and personal career opportunities in a particular vocational area, to include consideration of work-related issues and needs
- Analyse key challenges and opportunities facing a particular vocational area
- Summarise the basic rights and responsibilities of employees and employers ina particular work, organisational or institutional context, to include health, safety and welfare at work, equality legislation, union representation and regulations relating to pay

Communication –Module Code 5N0690
Course Information
This module aims to provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to communicate verbally and non-verbally in standard everyday tasks and work-related tasks, operating independently while under general direction.
Programme Aim
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Show understanding of the communication process
- Demonstrate understanding of the complexities of verbal/non-verbal communication
- Show verbal skills in making ‘a case for’ and presenting individual point of view
- Develop competency in active listening skills
- Discuss barriers to effective communication
- Demonstrate knowledge of current issues in communication including information technology
- Demonstrate adaptations to communication style for patient/client with communication deficits

Palliative Care Skills –Module Code 5N3769
Course Information
This module aims to provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to care for and address the needs of a person diagnosed with life-limiting illness in the last days of his/her life and also caring for family in a dignified and holistic way.
Programme Aim
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Define palliative care
- Describe common practice in palliative care
- Show consideration of physical symptom relief (pain)
- Gain understanding of Healthcare Assistant role in providing holistic care for persons diagnosed with life-limiting illness and his/her family
- Explore differing attitudes to death and dying including differing reactions to grief by individual and family
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills for effective and empathetic communication
- Develop understanding of diversity in death rituals within multi-cultural Ireland
- Develop awareness and respect for differing individual approach and preference around death
