Course Overview

Art–Acrylics (Tuesday Evening)

Suitable for beginners and improvers 

This is a ten-week course of practical classes introducing students to key concepts and techniques for confident and skilled painting in the medium of acrylic paint. The course is suitable for both beginners and improvers. Emphasis is on individual, not group progression. 
The principals of painting, composition, tone and colour-mixing are covered in depth, and students will be taught brushwork and how to build up paintings effectively.  

Subject matter is largely a matter of choice.  Beginners will be encouraged to participate in observational  drawing and still life exercises to build confidence and skill.  

Jane Ellis has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from IADT and is a practicing artist and a member of Blackchurch Print Studio.  

 

Equipment:     

Available at  Evans and Art and Hobby  

Cartridge paper size A3 pad for sketching, 2B, 6B, pencils  

  • Two small jam jars, a roll of tissue paper, rags, a white plate or palette, a roll of masking tape. 

For Acrylics: 

  • An A3 Book of Acrylic paper 
  • Acrylic paints in the following colours 

Alizarian Crimson 
Lemon Yellow 
Ultramarine Blue 
Black 
White 

More colours will be required as the course progresses 

  • Brushes 

1 large bristle or synthetic round brush size 12 to 14, 1 medium bristle or synthetic filbert brush size 6 to 8 and 1 small nylon brush size 4 

Creative Canvas Art Class (Friday Afternoon)

 

This creative canvas course is designed to explore 3 versatile mediums, colouring pencil, watercolours and acrylic.This course is suitable for all levels from beginners to the more experienced. Encouraging students to explore their possibilities using imagination and curiosity.

Join me for this 10 week adventure in art, creating and learning together.

 

Colouring pencil:

Using colouring pencils I will guide you through techniques such as layering, blending, and shading to create rich textures and depth. Learn how to produce vibrant colours and subtle gradients.

 

Watercolours: 

Learn the fluidity and transparency that defines this medium. We will cover topics such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry , water control, washes and more..

 

Acrylics:

We will explore the versatility of acrylic paints, which offer bold colours, layering and texturing. Using different techniques, including dry brushing, impasto, and glazing.

 

Materials Required

Participants can bring pencils and paper on the first night 2b 4b 6b etc. And on the night we can discuss what you will need for the remaining classes.
