Course Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to explore the fundamentals of world literature. The course will begin with The Epic of Gilgamesh, regarded as the first written piece of literary work. Then move onto some of the ancient Greek texts of Sophocles and Euripides such as Iphigenia and Oedipus. You will get to examine poems from the Greek poet Sappho (known as the 10th muse of Plato).
You can expect close readings and discussions on modern and postmodern texts from James Joyce and Virginia Woolf. The course aims to develop critical thinking and offers cultural knowledge of ancient texts that have shaped fiction today.
