Course Overview
POETRY FOR BEGINNERS
A re-introduction to reading and writing poetry Suitable for anyone of any age with an interest in reading and writing poetry, this course will provide a nurturing space for those curious about writing poetry but who may be uncertain where to begin.
Over eight weeks, you will become re-acquainted with poetry and learn to identify fundamental elements of the artform in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Through the exploration of carefully selected poems and with the help of engaging exercises, we will examine and experiment with various forms in order to help you discover your poetic voice. You will also be encouraged to share your own work within a creative and supportive group, generating confidence in your writing all the while.
By the completion of the course, you will have written, discussed and edited your own poems and having acquired basic knowledge of the artform, will also have the confidence to open any book of poetry and dive right in.
Notebook, pen and A4 folder required.
The tutor, Colm Brennan, is a writer of poetry and fiction. He has an MA in Creative Writing and his work has been appearing literary journals including Poetry Ireland Review, The Waxed Lemon and Cormorant for over a decade.
