Course Overview
In this beginner’s 10 week course I will introduce students to the skill of sewing on a sewing machine. This is a fun and creative class where students will learn a new craft in a relaxed atmosphere. My name is Naoise Farrell, I have a BA 1.1 hons degree in Fashion design and I now teach sewing to all ages and abilities. I am really looking forward to introducing you all to my favourite craft, sewing and to teach you how to apply this new skill to some projects.
Beginners will learn the following:
- How to thread and operate a sewing machine
- Basic machine maintenance
- Introduction to a pattern
- Pinning and cutting
- Seam allowance, seams, hemming, gathering, back stitch
- How to undo mistakes
- Machine troubleshooting
Students will design and create their own tote bag and/or cushion for their first project/s. Students will cut out and sew the project and will be encouraged to also design the fabric to create a truly unique piece.
Materials
Teacher will provide a sewing pack in the first class – this will occur a extra charge of 15 euros
Sewing pack will include all fabric/s and materials needed for the project/s made during this 10 week course
At the end of this course students will feel comfortable with a sewing machine and will have the basic skills needed for most sewing projects.
Machines supplied however students can bring their own machines if they wish.
Additional cot of €15 to be paid to tutor on the first night to cover material costs.
