LEARNER OUTCOMES QQI LEVEL 5:

The purpose of this Level 5 Minor award Course is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the practices and principles underpinning the role of a Special Needs Assistant to enable the learner to work effectively under direction in a special needs assisting capacity.  Work Experience is a compulsory component of level 5.  30 hours work experience is a mandatory part of this.  

ENTRY REQUIREMENT:

The minimum age is 17 Years. All learners must have a good standard of English.

We recommend that students obtain work experience before the course commences. In addition, students should apply for Garda Vetting to the institution where they are undertaking their work experience. Students do not need Garda Vetting when doing work experience through their own job.

PROGRESSION ROUTE/EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

On successful completion of this minor award Learners may access further minor awards (8 needed in total) to seek a Major award in Early Childhood Care and Education level 5.
Learners can also gain employment in school settings (Primary or Secondary) as a Special Needs Assistant.

LEARNER SUPPORTS:

Learners may gain financial support to cover the cost/partial cost of this course by contacting their local social welfare office

LEARNER OUTCOMES LEVEL 6:

The purpose of this Minor award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the theory and practice underpinning the education and care of those who present with special educational needs to enable the learner to assist in the provision of this education and care.  Obtaining work experience is highly advised for level 6.
