Course Overview

Level 5

The purpose of this Level 5 Minor award Course is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the practices and principles underpinning the role of a Special Needs Assistant to enable the learner to work effectively under direction in a special needs assisting capacity.  Work Experience is a compulsory component of level 5.  30 hours work experience is a mandatory part of this.  Blended Learning: The first two classes take place in Cabinteely Community School with the remaining classes taking place online.  QQI award specification.

Level 6
This online course is designed for learners who wish to progress from a QQI Level 5 to a QQI Level 6 qualification. The purpose of this Minor award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the theory and practice underpinning the education and care of those who present with special educational needs to enable the learner to assist in the provision of this education and care.  Obtaining work experience is highly advised for level 6.  QQI award specification.

We recommend that students obtain work experience before the course commences. In addition, students should apply for Garda Vetting to the institution where they are undertaking their work experience. Students do not need Garda Vetting when doing work experience through their own job.
